Do you know who PewDiePie is? If not, ask your son/daughter or niece/nephew, they probably understand who we’re talking about.
Chances are, you may have heard of the name or you may have seen it somewhere on YouTube as you browse the homepage. That’s because he is widely known for his videos on the platform, where he plays video games while reacting to what he is doing.
While the older may scoff at the idea of making money through that seemingly easy task, it is worth noting that a lot of people follow him on YouTube. In fact, he has over a hundred million strongholds on the app, who await for his daily uploads.
Last year, PewDiePie, whose real name is Felix Kjellberg, raked in a staggering $13 million, which means he is one of the top 10 highest earners of YouTube. However, he made a big announcement just before 2019 ended: he was taking a break from the video-sharing platform.
Of course, this immediately made headlines and fans were left scrambling to find why he made this big decision. As per the clip, PewDiePie only said that he will be taking a break from YouTube in the early part of 2020 because he was tired.
The Swedish content creator further said that his decision was final and that clip was an advance reminder for his followers. The following day, PewDiePie went on to share another video – this time a very telling one of his hate for Twitter, which he said promoted drama.
To solidify his stance, the 30-year-old deactivated his account in the microblogging site, thereby leaving his Twitter followers worried about him. If you search his profile, you will see the @pewdiepie handle, which was a precautionary measure to avoid fake ones pretending to be him.
Clearly what PewDiePie did was shocking because he is a social media personality and leaving platforms may mean there’s a problem. As per the rumors from the grapevine, he is simply taking a break from what he does best because he was fatigued from dealing with the slew of controversies he had centered in.
He is also a newly minted husband to his wife, Marzia Bisognin, who is also quite famous on YouTube but has left the platform permanently in 2018 to focus on other ventures. She has deleted most of her videos but some of her travel vlogs are still on her channel.
The couple tied the knot in August last year, so another reason seen for his temporary hiatus was that he was planning to settle down first before coming back stronger to the busy scene. Others, meanwhile, say that this was just as simple as it is: he’s just taking a short break from work, much like how we take a leave for a vacation.
