Bio Hacking Your Home: Here’s How!

Biohacking is a lifestyle rather than just being about what you eat and drink or how you train. Biohacking can be described as do-it-yourself biology; for many “biohackers,” this consists of making small, incremental diet or lifestyle changes to make small improvements to your health and well-being.

Biohacks promise anything from quick weight loss to enhanced brain function but the best biohacking results come from being well-informed and cautious about what works for your body. A biohacker could have no science background at all or have a Ph.D.; but they have a similar aim of manipulating the body, brain, and surrounding environment for better living and performance. Simple examples of this can be intermittent fasting, stem cell injections, cryotherapy, and taking supplements. Here are a few ways to get you started on biohacking your life

Try intermittent fasting

Intermittent fasting is a type of dieting method that involves you only eating between certain times, and then fasting for an extended period until the next designated time to eat. Intermittent fasting is the key to launching autophagy, a cellular process whose name comes from auto, meaning self, and phage, meaning to devour. In essence, autophagy helps cells devour dead, dying, and malfunctioning cells in our bodies, paving the way for improved, healthy cell function.

You can practice this hack by using the 16/8 intermittent fasting method, whereby one fasts for 16 hours (including overnight) and eats in an eight-hour window, which is one of the most common ways to activate autophagy.

Clean air

We’re all aware that air quality, especially in built-up areas, isn’t ideal, but even in the most polluted city, you can bio-hack the air in your home. In reality, it’s not all man-made pollutants in the air you have to watch out for, there are also natural things like radon gas and so, managing air quality in your home should be a priority.

There are many ways you can improve air quality but the first thing is to purify the air as this will not only remove toxic air particles, but it will also reduce airborne allergens, which cause the body’s immune system to respond excessively to something most people don’t have an allergy to.

Depending on the air purifier you choose, you can filter and sterilize the air together or independently, and you’ll be able to remove up to 99.99% of pollutants, dust mites, mold spores, pet hair, dead skin, smoke particles, odors, bacteria, viruses and much more.

Cold water therapy

Cold water therapy is another great biohacking technique that can reduce inflammation and improve your body’s immune, lymphatic, circulatory, and digestive systems. Evidence shows that cold therapy helps increase the production of brown fats, these are cells packed with mitochondria and actually burn white fat, which stores calories. The therapy also reduces the frequency of respiratory infections in patients with the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease while also easing fatigue and improving physical recovery following exercise.
