This month’s Health issue came graced with a cover story by rising star and Riverdale’s beloved, Camilla Mendes. For the interview set up via Zoom, the celebrity showed up au natural – a no-makeup look and a simple white tee with blue jeans.
Taking one look at her, no one would be able to guess that she hasn’t left her Vancouver apartment, save for her show shoots. The entire cast is observing quarantine for two weeks before production resumes.
Having learned a lot about herself, the value of her own company, and self-care during the lockdown, she comes locked and loaded with a world of wisdom. Here’s what the actress had to say to her fans on the matter.
1. The Two Selves – Social Butterfly & Introvert
Camilla spoke about how, in her daily life, “social butterfly” is the best word to describe her, to the point where alone time often had to be forced. During the lockdown, however, she realized how much she liked being alone. The calm after the ‘go, go, go’ mentality helped her gain some perspective and reevaluate her priorities.
2. Adapting to Situations
When asked about her favorite thing to do alone, Camilla spoke about her fondness of going out to eat with friends before the pandemic forced lockdown. But you can’t let little things stop you, right? So, she learned how to cook, starting with basic meal-delivery services.
3. Defining Wellness
For Camilla, wellness is all about caring for her body in the most immediate of ways, like paying attention to what it needs to be healthy. Checking in with your physical and mental health is one of the best wellness practices, she states. This habit, moreover, she says, comes from little pushes from her mom growing up.
4. Nutrition and Nourishment
Camilla spoke very candidly about her eating disorder and adverse relationship with food growing up. She talked about how she would not eat carbs and end up bingeing on them later after facing symptoms of withdrawal.
She enlisted the help of a therapist and nutritionist to help her recover from the disorder. One amazing lesson she learned throughout the challenge was that the human body tells you what it needs and wants; all you have to do is listen to it.
5. Taking Care of Mental Health
When covering mental health, the actress laid focus on the importance of therapy. Gratitude journals can also be of significant help. Other than that, one must know when to sit back, cut off their connection with technology, and just relax. Prepare a warm bath, put some light music on, and get into a good book.
